Privacy Policy — Site Downloader

Last updated: May 29, 2026 · Contact: pagetopdf@gmail.com

The short version: Site Downloader runs entirely inside your own Chrome. When you save or clone a website, the pages and assets are fetched and packed into a .zip on your machine. We have no server that receives the sites you visit or download. There is no account, no signup, and no tracking of your browsing history.

This Privacy Policy describes how the Chrome extension "Site Downloader" ("the Extension", "we") handles data. The Extension is available on the Chrome Web Store. It runs on the user's machine and has no server-side component that processes your content.

1. Our principles

  • Privacy policies should be human-readable. No legal cosplay, no boilerplate describing things we don't do.
  • The simplest data practice is no data practice. The less we collect, store, or transmit, the less can leak.
  • Match the reasonable expectation of the user. You installed an extension that downloads and clones websites for offline use. It does that and nothing else.

2. What data we process

2.1 Data sent to our servers

None. The Extension does not send the pages you download, the URLs you visit, your settings, or any browsing activity to any server we operate. We do not run a backend that receives your content — the fetching and packaging happen locally in your browser.

2.2 Network requests the Extension makes

To build an offline copy, your browser requests the page you are on and the assets it references (stylesheets, scripts, images, fonts) directly from the origin website and its asset hosts — exactly as a normal browser visit would. In multi-page mode it additionally follows internal links within the same domain. These requests go to the sites being downloaded, not to us.

These fetches are made without your cookies or credentials (credentials: 'omit'), so the Extension only retrieves publicly accessible resources and cannot reach content that sits behind your login.

2.3 Fonts in the popup

The popup loads its interface fonts (Inter Tight and JetBrains Mono) from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com). As with any web font, Google's servers receive your IP address as part of that request when the popup opens. The Extension sends no other data to Google, and this is the only third party contacted by the popup UI itself.

3. What we do NOT collect

  • Names, email addresses, phone numbers, postal addresses
  • Account credentials, passwords, or authentication tokens
  • Payment or financial information
  • The content of the pages you download (it stays on your device)
  • A list or history of the sites you visit or save
  • Keystrokes, mouse movements, or screen recordings
  • Analytics, advertising, or tracking data — the Extension contains no such SDKs (no Google Analytics, Amplitude, Sentry or similar) and assigns you no identifier
  • Data from children under 13 (knowingly)

4. Permissions we request and why

  • tabs — to identify the active tab and its URL so the Extension knows which page you want to save.
  • scripting — to run a snapshot function in the active page that reads its rendered HTML and the list of assets it references.
  • downloads — to write the finished .zip archive to your Downloads folder and detect when the save completes.
  • storage — to remember your mode / depth settings and other local UI state between sessions.
  • offscreen — to run an invisible document that fetches assets, follows links and packs the archive; this work is not permitted directly in a service worker.
  • alarms — to keep the background service worker awake during long multi-page downloads so they don't stall.
  • Host access (http://*/*, https://*/*) — required so the Extension can fetch the page and its assets from whatever site you choose to download. The target is whatever you are visiting when you click download; the Extension never transmits those URLs or contents to us.

All permissions are used only for the purposes above and only when needed.

5. Data retention

  • Local settings — stay on your device until you uninstall the Extension or clear Chrome's extension storage.
  • Downloaded archives — are ordinary files in your Downloads folder; you control them entirely and can delete them at any time.
  • Web-server logs for this website (sitedownloader.app) — standard access logs (IP, user-agent, timestamp) rotated automatically; created only when you open a page here in your browser.

6. Data sharing and selling

We do not sell, rent, or trade any data. We do not share user data with advertisers or anyone else.

7. Your rights

Because we do not collect personal data, there is nothing tied to "you" that we could look up on our side. You can:

  • Delete your local data by uninstalling the Extension or clearing extension storage in Chrome's settings.
  • Delete any downloaded archive directly from your Downloads folder.
  • Contact us at pagetopdf@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.

If you are located in the EEA, UK, or California, you have rights under GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA including access, rectification, erasure, and objection. Contact us at the email above to exercise these rights.

8. Security

Web traffic to sitedownloader.app is protected by HTTPS / TLS. Because your downloads are processed and stored locally, their security depends on your own device and the place you keep the resulting .zip files.

9. Responsible use

Downloading or cloning a website for personal use, backups, or offline reading is generally fine. You are responsible for respecting each site's terms of service and applicable copyright before redistributing or republishing content you copy.

10. Children

The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the Extension in a way that concerns you, contact us and we will take appropriate action.

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be communicated via the Chrome Web Store listing and / or this website.
